Face Book Comment

Naseem Darbey’s stitched portraits made me think of gender issues more than anything else in the exhibition, largely because for most adult males it’s an unusual feeling to have the opposite sex be bigger than you, physically looking down on you. I felt oddly uneasy moving in between her ‘tension’ pieces, with the faces that look somewhat angry and disapproving- one particular portrait, of a woman in a top with a blue collar, really seemed to be watching me! I thought the way Naseem’s pictures were presented was very effective, allowing the visitor to get in amongst them and enter the world of her work, populated by anxious giantesses.
